Project description • Defered Audit #3

Defered Audit #3 was an attempt to create an inventory of all the objects that still could be found in the gallery that had been bought by gallery staff during a period of approx. 8-12 years ago (1990-94). Functioning as a kind of "anti-monument", this work highlights the social aspect of the gallery as it attempted to track the mundane nature of many of the tasks and decisions that actually comprise gallery work.

The modus operandi of this piece was to use receipts from purchases made by gallery staff approx. ten years earlier to track still-existing items thus creating a kind of history refering to the gallery's infrastructure and administration. Photocopies of receipts and commissions for renovations or repairs in the gallery were made and matched to digital photos

made of the purchased objects or results of commissioned work as they were located. Receipts and photographs were compiled in a standard 3" plastic binder which was placed on the desk of the security guard. Viewers of this piece had to sit in the security guard's chair while leafing through the binder. The final entry in the binder documented the purchase of the security guard's desk itself.
