2006 CASS Fundraising Concert
Each year since 2002 Canadian Aid for South Sudan has held a fundraising concert at Wesley Knox United Church in London, Ontario. This concert features many talented local choirs, singers and musicians. The pictures on this page are from the 2006 concert. You may click on any of the pictures to see a larger image.
The entertainers at this year's concert included the Medway Concert Choir, the A.B. Lucas Chamber Choir, Mountsfield Elementary Choir, and London Pro Musica. Special solos were performed by Cheryll Harrison (below) and Denise Pelley. All of these musicians give generously of their time and talent to support the work of CASS. The concert itself is free of charge, although a freewill offering is taken and all donations go directly to benefit CASS programs.
This year we heard special words of inspiration from Jane Roy, Glen Pearson and Denise Pelley. Each in their own way conveyed the passion and excitment that they have to be able to help the people of Sudan, and expressed their thanks for the tremendous community support shown by the capacity crowd. There was also a special visit from the women of the "Passion for Sudan" group.
This group of 7 women, including the 6 shown above and Denise Pelley (at left) will be travelling to Sudan in January 2007. They will be helping to organize women in Sudan to run their own small enterprises, using simple equipment like sewing machines and a grinding mill. Denise will also be organizing a singing group among the people in the area. She closed her speech with the words "I want to help their soul to sing; for my walk is not yet ended". You can read more about this inspiring group of women on the Passion for Sudan page.
The women of Passion for Sudan also joined in the concert for one song, singing "We are Family" along with the choirs. You can click on the link below for a short video of their song (4.7 MB).
